Remenapp Assists Denver's Victory Over Vandy
from press release
DENVER – University of Denver junior Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.) had a goal and six assists – connecting with senior Meredith Harris (Middleburg, Va.) on four of the goals – leading the Pioneers to a 10-8 win at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
"I thought we played really well offensively," DU head coach Liza Kelly said. "We had a lot of people step up and score goals when we needed them. Overall, I was pleased with how much better we played today than we did on Saturday. Jill's six assists showed we were really putting the ball in on transition, and limiting Vanderbilt to just one assist was a good game plan for us."
Junior Rachael Dillon (Mount Sinai, N.Y.) and senior Jenn Etzel (Bel Air, Md.) both added two goals for the Pioneers (3-1, 2-0 MPSF).
After a Vanderbilt (3-3) goal to open the second half deadlocked the score at 5-5, Remenapp assisted on back-to-back goals to Dillon and Harris, giving DU a 7-5 advantage.
The Commodores responded by tallying three unanswered goals to again overtake the Pioneers, and held on to the one-goal margin for 10 minutes before the Pioneers scored the game's final three goals to secure the victory.
The Pioneers started out strong building an early 3-0 within the first 10 minutes of the game, but the Commodores awakened in the back end of the opening 30 minutes, outscoring the Pioneers 4-2 heading into the break, including one with 0.9 seconds on the clock. The Pioneers held a slim 5-4 lead at the break.
Setting the standard for VU were midfielder Jill Doherty and attacker Mallory Schonk, who each had two goals. The Commodores dominated the draw controls, collecting 16 of 19, and outshot Denver 24-19 in the game.
DU closes its homestand when it hosts Temple (2-3) on Saturday at 1 p.m. MT.
