Harris Scores Four as Denver Downs Temple

DENVER – University of Denver senior Meredith Harris (Middleburg, Va.) led the Pioneers with four goals and an assist in DU’s 12-9 victory over Temple  Saturday afternoon at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium. The Pioneers improved to 4-1 overall on the season, while Temple drops to 2-4 overall.

“I feel like we played well in early on, but we still have things we need to work on,” said head coach Liza Kelly said. “We have a week off since the girls have exams, which will give us some time to work on things.”

Denver would not let up the lead after scoring four goals in the first five minutes of play. Harris opened DU scoring with a goal just 1:15 into the game.

Junior Jill Remenapp (Woodbine, Md.) recorded two goals, three assists and five groundballs, while sophomore Monica Lucas (Kensington, Md.) scored twice.

The Pioneers led 9-4 at the half and outshot the Owls 18-9 in the first 30 minutes. Redshirt junior Hannah Hook (Arnold, Md.) made 14 saves, while the Pioneers converted 13-of-14 clear attempts.

Temple’s Nicole Tiernan led the Owls with three goals and an assist in the game.

The Pioneers begin a two game road trip when they will travel to Rock Hill, S.C., to take on Winthrop on Monday, March 17 at 2 p.m., MT. They will wrap up the trip Thursday, March 20 in High Point, N.C., for a 4 p.m., MT start.
