La Salle Evens A-10 Record With Win Over St. Bonaventure

from Press Release

PHILADELPHIA - The La Salle lacrosse squad picked up its second win in as many games, knocking off St. Bonaventure 13-6 on Sunday afternoon at McCarthy Stadium.

Toni Massetti and Katelyn Fay led the Explorer attack with three goals apiece, and Caitlyn Brostrand and Erin McCabe scored two each. Alanna Diffendal, Allee Ilgenfritz and Katie Wherley added one apiece for the Explorers, who improved their record to 13-6 overall and 2-2 in the Atlantic 10.

Taylor Fallon led St. Bonaventure (0-11, 0-4 Atlantic 10) with two goals.

The Bonnies drew first blood 2:40 into the contest when Gabrielle Bradley found Fallon for her first goal.

Fay answered just under five minutes later, draining an unassisted shot for the Explorers' first goal of the game at 22:55. That sparked a four-goal run over a two-minute span, which included Massetti's first goal at 22:20, Fay's second on a Massetti assist at 21:08 and McCabe's first on a Diffendal assist at 20:38.

SBU's LeighAnn Stauffer broke up the run with a score at 18:57, taking a feed from Place for the score.

The squads were scoreless over the next seven minutes. Massetti broke up the drought at 10:09 to push the Explorers to a 5-3 lead and scored again at 3:17 for a 6-3 advantage.

Ilgenfritz converted a free position shot with 1:30 remaining, but SBU answered quickly with Mary Maestri's goal on a Stauffer assist at 1:06 for a 7-4 halftime score.

Both squads held tight early in the second half, with neither squad scoring for over 10 minutes. Fay kickstarted a three-goal run over eight minutes for the Explorers with an unassisted goal at 19:41. Brostrand scored her first at 16:52 and Diffendal rounded out the run with a goal at 11:17 on an Alex Watson assist to take a 10-4 lead.

The Bonnies got one back on a free position goal by Fallon at 7:11, but Brostrand and McCabe put the game out of reach with goals at 4:27 and 3:53. Brostrand drained her goal on a free position shot, and Tori Mitros found McCabe off of the free position attempt to put the score at 12-5.

SBU's Lily Timlin scored the final Bonnies goal at 1:37, and Wherley scored her second of the season at 1:05 for the final 13-6 score.

The Explorers dominated in nearly every category, including shots (34-17), ground balls (26-15) and draw controls (14-7). They also forced 21 Bonnie turnovers to 17 for the Explorers. The Explorers struggled with fouls, amassing 26 to just 13 Bonnies fouls.

Gabby Antonelli once again picked up the win in goal, snagging nine saves in the effort. Sara Schlagenhauf was between the pipes for the Bonnies, also recording nine saves.

The Explorers conclude the home portion of their schedule next Friday with the team's annual Senior Day game at 10 a.m. when they host Saint Joseph's. The Senior Day ceremony will start at approximately 9:45 a.m.
