Give and Go: UNC Incoming Freshman Marie McCool

by Megan Schneider | LaxMagazine.com | Twitter

The Tar Heels incoming freshman likes to keep up with the Kardashians and is a strong advocate for the shot clock in the game. What else is she about?

Who is your favorite athlete?

That's a hard one. I want to say Mia Hamm. I'm going to North Carolina and that's where she went. She's a great athlete and I love soccer too.

What's one thing you can't live without?

My iPhone. I love it. I can't live without it because I love talking to my friends and it gives me an easy way to communicate with people. I am also really into social media so I use it for Twitter and Instagram.

What's one thing that always puts you in a good mood?

Before games, I love singing and dancing with my team in the locker room. It definitely puts me in a good mood and gets me pumped up. We like to dance to the song "Move It Like This."

What's been the proudest moment of your lacrosse career?

My senior year, we won the New Jersey State Championship. We won it my junior year as well, but it was way more special my senior year.

What's one thing that lacrosse really needs?

I think women's lacrosse needs a shot clock because in my opinion, stalling ruins the momentum of the game. I like fast-paced and intense games to make it fun.

What's the biggest obstacle you've overcome?

Probably the recruiting process. It's a really hard process and I'm really glad where I am now. I ended up with a school that is going to be the right fit for me.

If you could meet anyone, dead or alive, who would it be?

Adam Levine from Maroon 5. "She Will Be Loved" is my all-time favorite song.

Do you have any pregame rituals?

In high school, I always wore my hair in a really high bun. I had my friend braid the bottom in upside-down French braid.

What's on your bucket list?

For my lacrosse bucket list, I want to win a national championship. For my life bucket list, I really want to go to Greece. It's really pretty. I watch "Keeping Up with the Kardashians" and they went to Greece and I really wanted to stay where they were staying.

Where did you go on your last vacation?

I went to Disney World. It was for our senior trip so being with my friends in Disney was so fun. I've never really gone on vacation with my friends before so spending a whole week with my whole grade and best friends was really fun.

What will be your major at North Carolina?

I plan to major in business and I actually want to work for Nike as a sales representative.

What are you looking forward to most about going to North Carolina?

I'm looking forward to making new friends and definitely, hopefully, winning a national championship. When I'm there, I feel like I'm at home.

It's 2024 – Where are you and what are you doing?

Hopefully, I'm married with three kids – two boys and one girl. I actually want to raise my kids in Moorestown where I grew up because it's such a nice town and lacrosse is really big for girls there. Hopefully, I also have a good job.

OVERTIME (from MLL moonlighter Chazz Woodson)

If you had the resources, what one problem in America or the world would you address? What would your first step be?

The one major problem I would love to address is starvation across the world. I think many people including myself take it for granted that we have so much food and water when there are people in different countries starving. My first step would be trying to collect food and then bringing it to these countries to distribute it to people who need it.

DOUBLE OVERTIME (from Alyssa Natoli, Eastport, N.Y.):

If you could pick any name in the world, what name would you pick? Why?

If I could pick my name, I'd pick Ryan. I really like Ryan as a girl name. It's interesting, but I love it.
