COLCHESTER, Vt. – The Saint Michael's College women's lacrosse team (2-10, 1-7 Northeast-10 Conference) dropped a 24-2 decision to top-ranked Adelphi University on Duffy Field at the Doc Jacobs Complex on Saturday.
For the Panthers, junior Claire Peterson (Wantagh, N.Y./Wantagh/Catholic University) eclipsed the 60-assist mark for the season and had a game-high 12 points on five goals and seven assists. Junior Erica Devito (Shoreham, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) led all players with seven goals, and freshman Devan Crimi (West Islip, N.Y./West Islip) scored five points on three goals and two helpers. Freshman goalie Frankie Caridi (East Northport, N.Y./Commack) made four saves and allowed just two goals in her 10th win of the season.
For Saint Michael's, senior Joan Colloton (Albany, N.Y./Academy of the Holy Names) and junior Eliza Scoba (Franklin, Mass./Franklin) each scored a goal, and junior goalie Sandy Palumbo (Guilford, Conn./Guilford) suffered the loss in net while making nine saves.
Adelphi rushed out to a 7-0 lead in the first four minutes of play, and extended its lead to 14-2 at the half. The Panthers' defense crunched down in the second period and did not allow Saint Michael's to attempt a shot on goal after halftime. A 10-goal second half burst propelled Adelphi to its second straight 24-goal performance and its ninth game with at least 20 goals this season.
