BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – Five Pioneers scored multiple goals as eighth-ranked women’s lacrosse upended sixth-ranked West Chester, 19-11, on Tuesday afternoon on Hickox Field in non-conference women’s lacrosse action.
The Pioneers improve to 10-2 on the season, while the Golden
Rams slip to 12-3.
Lauren Spagnoletta (West Islip, N.Y.) led all scorers with five goals, while Michelle Fucich (Seaford, N.Y.) added four goals, and Kathleen Rotan (West Islip, N.Y.) and Abigail Ross (Miller Place, N.Y.) notched hat tricks for the Pioneers. Jackie Sileo (Wantagh, N.Y.) added seven assists.
West Chester scored first on Devon Lotkowski’s goal at 27:17, but C.W. Post wasted no time in getting on the scoreboard as Fucich notched back-to-back goals to put the Pioneers on top, 2-1.
The Pioneers reeled of three more goals to make the score 5-1, and then exchanged goals with the Golden Rams for the remainder of the period, going into the break up 11-5 after Spagnoletta scored an unassisted goal with one second remaining.
Two goals from Ross and two from Rotan kicked off the second stanza and extended C.W. Post’s lead to 15-5. Three straight scores by WCU’s Jamie Dolan closed the score to 15-8, but C.W. Post reeled off another four straight, including two by Nan Mayott (Islip, N.Y.), and the Pioneers led 19-8.
Claire Grimwood scored twice to end the contest for West Chester.
C.W. Post outshot WCU 35-33, and held a 17-13 edge in draw controls. Dominique Mosca (Merrick, N.Y.) made eight saves to earn the victory.
C.W. Post will host Adelphi on Hickox Field on Friday at 4 p.m.
