No. 1 Adelphi Routs No. 8 C.W. Post

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. - The Adelphi University women's lacrosse team traveled across Long Island on Friday, April 22 to take on local rival, eighth ranked C.W. Post in Brookville, New York. The Panthers turned a 7-3 halftime lead into a 19-7 rout, with 12 second half goals. With the win Adelphi remains unblemished at 13-0 overall, while the Pioneers falls to 10-3.
Claire Petersen fueled the offense, scoring a game high nine points on four goals and five assists. Both Devan Crimi and Marissa Mills had four points on the day, Crimi courtesy of four goals and Mills had three tallies and one assist. Elizabeth Fey chipped in three points on two goals and one helper.
Defensively, Frankie Caridi set the bar, causing a game high three turnovers, while Katelynn Ciaci was credited with two. Fey and Kaitlyn Carter picked up four ground balls each, while Demmianne Cook had five draw controls and Mills and Jacqueline Williams both had three.
Caridi put up a wall in net for Adelphi, making nine stops, six in the first half to collect her 13th victory of the season. Jennifer Rojas made one stop in two minutes of action.
Adelphi and C.W. Post traded goals to open play, but the Panthers responded with back-to-back tallies from Crimi and Petersen to open up a two goal lead, 3-1 with 20:17 on the clock. The Pioneers responded with a goal of their own to creep back within one, but Mills and Petersen notched goals to extend the edge to 5-2 at the 9:04 mark.
However, C.W. Post would not quit, getting their third goal of the game with 7:49 on the clock to cut the margin to two goals, 5-3. Cook immediately pushed the edge back to three, scoring just 25 seconds later and another Crimi tally would give the Panthers a four goal cushion at the break, 7-3.
Adelphi found the back of the Pioneer net just 48 seconds into the second frame, courtesy of Carter. But, C.W. Post pulled back within three, 8-5, with back-to-back goals. The Panthers and Pioneers would then trade goals, making the score 9-6 at the 21:48 mark.
Then Adelphi erupted, sparked by a Petersen goal with 20:58 on the clock, the Panthers went on a tear, scoring 10 straight. When the run was over, Adelphi had a 13 goal lead, 19-6 and would leave Brookville with a 19-7 victory.
The game was statistically even, as Adelphi and C.W. Post had the same number of draw controls (14) and ground balls (21), but the Panthers out shot the Pioneers, 35-21.
Adelphi's, 12 goal win is the largest margin of victory in the Panthers all-time series with C.W. Post, topping the previous margin of nine, which occurred in a 17-8 Pioneer win in 2002. The victory also knots the all-time series at eight wins apiece and gives Adelphi four wins in the last five meetings and five in the last seven.
The Panthers will return to the field on Saturday, April 23 when they play host to Bentley University at 2:00 pm in a Northeast-10 Contest on Motamed Field.
