Borrino Breaks Assist Mark; Lock Haven Wins Again

from press release

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – The No. 6 Lock Haven University lacrosse team capped off an 11-0 run in PSAC play with a dominating 16-6 win over visiting Mercyhurst as the Lady Eagles closed out the regular season.

Lock Haven (14-1, 11-0 PSAC) won its 11th straight game marking a perfect 11-0 mark in conference play.

The win marked Lock Haven's first undefeated conference season since 1991, when LHU went 5-0.

Mercyhurst (12-5, 7-4 PSAC) had no answer for The Haven as the Lady Eagles jumped all over the Lakers from the opening whistle on the way to the lopsided win.

A huge part of the story today was the play of Chelsea Borrino (Webster, N.Y./Webster Thomas), who paced Lock Haven's explosive offensive attack.

Her game-high 10 assists broke the LHU and PSAC single game record for assists. The 10 assists also ran her season total to 58, which is a LHU single-season career record.

Jessica Pandolf (Holbrook, N.Y./Sachem North) turned in a sensational individual effort as well and finished with eight goals.

Jenna Dingler (Washington Township, N.J./Washington Township) netted a hat trick and Rachel Ward (Fishers, Ind./Bishop Chatard) added two goals.

Seniors Emily Cilla (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and Samantha Hurley (Churchville, Pa./Council Rock South) both factored into the score sheet in their final regular season game on Charlotte Smith Field. Cilla had four assists and Hurley added one goal.

Lock Haven goalie Chrissy Baffuto (Long Valley, N.J./West Morris Central) held down another strong defensive effort from The Haven. Her eight saves helped limit any flow on offense for the Lakers.

Kelly Close (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) forced two Laker turnovers as Lock Haven's defense smothered Mercyhurst today. Lock Haven forced the Lakers into 20 turnovers.

Less than four minutes into the match, it was 3-0 LHU as the Lady Eagles jumped out to an 8-0 lead. With just over 10 minutes to play in the opening half, the Lakers finally found the scoreboard.

Lock Haven led 9-2 at half and cruised in the second.

Lock Haven returns to action next Friday, May 3 when the Lady Eagles host the 2013 PSAC Tournament. Lock Haven's semifinal on Friday is set for 1 p.m., but The Haven's opponent is to be determined based on Tuesday's PSAC quarterfinal matches.
