No. 3 F&M Tops No. 9 Union in Nailbiter

LANCASTER, Pa. - In a struggle of two top-ten teams matching goal for goal, Lidia Sanza's save from point blank with 2:06 left proved decisive for Franklin & Marshall. Sanza's tenth save of the game allowed the No. 3 Diplomats (6-0) to hang on for an 11-10 win over No. 9 Union College (1-1).

Sanza had 11 stops in the game including a routine save with 59 seconds left, but none were bigger then her robbery of Liz Zamore. That preserved the lead provide by Jen Pritchard's goal with 4:32 left to play. Pritchard's second goal, assisted by Blake Hargest, gave the Diplomats an 11-9 lead.

Union scored with 2:59 left in the game when Kristen Joyce converted on a pass from Chole Schmitz to make it 11-10. Union was able to fire off two more shots, both stopped by Sanza. On the second shot, the Diplomats cleared with 56 seconds remaining and were able to run out the clock on the Dutchwomen.

The Diplomats started off the game strong with a 5-1 lead on back-to-back goals by Hargest, with 15:04 left in the first period. The second goal was Hargest 100th career goal. Union answered back 12 seconds later as Chloe Schmitz netted a goal, making the score 5-2. The Dutchwomen would outscore the Diplomats 4-1 in the final 12 minutes of period, leaving the score 6-6 at halftime.

Shannon Summers and Pritchard led the Diplomats each scoring three goals. Meredith Lusser and Pritchard added two goals each. Ashley Bevington scored one goal to put her at 100 points on her career.

Allie Cuozzo and Chelsea Charette both scored three goals for the Dutchwomen. Union dominated the drawing controls, winning 15 to Franklin & Marshall's seven. Cat Ruggiero match Sanza with 11 saves. Both keepers were phenomenal on the free position, with Union coming away with the only FPS goal in 12 combined attempts.

The Diplomats are 4-0 against ranked teams this season. Franklin & Marshall returns to action on Wednesday against McDaniel in the second of a Centennial Conference Lacrosse team double header.
