Elizabethtown Rallies to Beat No. 20 Dickinson

ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa. --- Trailing 7-5 at
halftime, Elizabethtown College outscored Dickinson College 7-0 in
the second half as the Blue Jays defeated the 20th-ranked Red
Devils 12-7 in non-conference women's lacrosse action at a rainy
Wolf Field on Thursday afternoon.
Senior Katie Foley (Palmyra, NJ/Holy Cross) and junior Katie Caprinolo (Jarrettsville, MD/North Harford) each finished with four goals for the Blue Jays (7-2 overall), who had been ranked 20th in each of the two previous weeks before losing their position to the Red Devils (6-3 overall) in this week's IWLCA Division III poll.
Senior Jenn Hawkins (Havre de Grace, MD/Havre de Grace) made six of her 13 saves in the second half, and kept Dickinson off the scoreboard for the final 33 minutes, 33 seconds of the contest.
Lexie Kob scored three goals to lead Dickinson, which mustered just nine shots at goal in the second half after peppering Hawkins with 20 shots in the first half. For the game, Elizabethtown outshot the Red Devils by a 32-29 margin, including 20-9 in the second half.
Foley opened the scoring just 17 seconds into the contest, but Dickinson scored the next five goals over a span of 5 minutes, 36 seconds to take a 5-1 lead on Kob's third and final goal of the day with 19:44 left in the first half.
Elizabethtown answered as Foley scored twice and junior Megan Byrnes (Lutherville, MD/Towson) added a goal to bring the Blue Jays within 5-4 with 9:15 left in the first half. Goals by Abby Larson and Alysa Crellin boosted Dickinson to a 7-4 lead with 3:33 left in the half, but Caprinolo scored her first of the day with 1:19 left to send Elizabethtown to intermission trailing 7-5.
It was all Blue Jays in the second half, as goals by sophomore Maria DeMatteo (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga Springs) and Caprinolo tied the game at 7-7 with 25:47 remaining. Foley scored her fourth of the day off a feed by DeMatteo to give Elizabethtown an 8-7 lead with 18:29 to go, and Caprinolo netted her third of the afternoon with 17:20 to go to extend the Blue Jay advantage to 9-7.
With 8:21 left, junior Stephanie Kreis (Bel Air, MD/John Carroll School) became the seventh player in school history to reach 100 career points as she scored to give the Blue Jays a 10-7 lead, and Elizabethtown closed the scoring in the final five minutes on goals from senior Kelsea Kozak (Brookhaven, PA/Sun Valley) and Caprinolo.
Kreis finished with a game-high four ground balls for the Blue Jays, while Sunnie Ko led all players with five draw controls for Dickinson. Jessie Clark played in goal for the Red Devils and made 12 saves on the afternoon.
