Gettysburg Women Picked to Win Centennial
from press release
LANCASTER, Pa. – For the second consecutive season, the Gettysburg College women's lacrosse team has been named the favorite to win the Centennial Conference according to voting by the league's 10 head coaches.
Gettysburg received seven first-place votes and 79 total points to finish just ahead of runner-up Franklin & Marshall, which earned the remaining three first-place nods and 75 points. Haverford College edged Dickinson College by one point (59-58) for the No. 3 position.
Selected No. 1 in the 2010 CC preseason poll, Gettysburg ran the table in conference play last season, posting a perfect 9-0 record. However, the Bullets fell short of the ultimate goal of a title as Franklin & Marshall posted a 9-8 overtime victory in the tournament finale.
Gettysburg finished 2010 with its fourth appearance in five seasons in the NCAA Division III Tournament finals. The squad finished 18-4 overall with six wins over teams that finished ranked in the Intercollegiate Women's Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) national poll.
The Orange and Blue lead all conference schools with six championships, but the title has been securely locked in Lancaster for each of the last four seasons.
Gettysburg, ranked No. 5 in the national polls, begins the 2011 campaign against No. 16 University of Mary Washington on Thursday, Feb. 24, at 4 p.m. on Clark Field.
