from press release
SALISBURY, Md. – The No. 1-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team came away with an 18-15 victory over an Adrian College team that would not quit on Wednesday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium.
The Sea Gulls (3-0) jumped out to a 2-0 lead nearly a minute in to the contest with goals coming from junior midfielder Alyssa Fowler and senior attacker Logan Bilderback. The Bulldogs (0-3) got their first goal of the day from Amanda Lambert. It would be a back-and-forth affair from there, as the two teams continued to trade goals. With the score knotted at 7-7 and less than two minutes remaining in the half, junior midfielder Allie Wheatley gave the Sea Gulls a slight edge with an unassisted goal with 1:37 remaining.
At the half the Sea Gulls held a narrow 17-16 shots advantage, won 10-of-16 draw controls and each side came away with five ground balls.
After six minutes of scoreless play to open up the second half, senior midfielder Aileen McCausland struck with a goal off an assist from Bilderback. After an unassisted Adrian goal, Salisbury reeled off six-straight goals to break open the contest with 12 minutes remaining. Over the next eight minutes, each team would find the back of the net three times, with SU holding a comfortable 18-11 lead. A relentless Bulldog attack closed the score to its final at 18-15, as the visitors scored four goals in the last four minutes.
Bilderback finished with a team-high seven points on five goals and two assists, while Trish DiGirolomo (one goal, four assists) and Katie Bollhorst (one goal, three assist) ended with five and four points, respectively.
