Stevenson Puts Away McDaniel with 9-0 Run

from press release

OWINGS MILLS, Md. – Megan Weiss netted four goals to lead No. 20 Stevenson to a 14-9 victory over McDaniel in non-conference women's lacrosse action on Tuesday.

Weiss contributed three of her tallies during an eight-goal stretch for the Mustangs (4-1) that turned an early 4-0 deficit into an 8-4 halftime lead.

Paige Messersmith (Phoenix, Md./Dulaney) led the Green Terror (0-3) with a career-high four goals while Brittany Lines (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) added a pair.

Just 11:26 into the contest, Weiss found Corrine Thompson for her lone assist of the game to spark a nine-goal run by the hosts.

Back-to-back tallies from Weiss 1:39 apart closed the deficit to 4-3 with 14:10 to play in the first half before Leah Warner finished a solo run to even the game with 7:54 on the clock.

Lisa Baker found Olivia Baker with 4:31 showing for a one-goal lead before converting a free-position goal 54 seconds later for a 6-4 advantage.

L. Baker, who finished with three goals and four assists, fed Weiss and tallied a second goal in the final 1:49 to make it an 8-4 game at the intermission before Marissa Meiklejohn found the back of the net 4:36 into the second half for the largest lead of the contest.

Messersmith tallied twice around a Lauren McCadden (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) free-position goal in a 7-minute, 21-second span. In addition to her first collegiate goal, McCadden notched her first assist, finding Messersmith to close the deficit to two with 15:45 to play.

Weiss and Lines traded unassisted marker 1:12 apart before Baker tallied her third of the game to spark another three-goal flurry that pushed the lead back to five with 4:30 to play.

A Messersmith free-position goal and Leah Warner solo run capped the scoring.

Messersmith opened the scoring, finishing a feed from Chelsea Watkins (Columbia, Md./Hammond) just 44 seconds into the game.

Lines doubled the advantage nearly four minutes later before Lisa Jurd (Columbia, Md./Hammond) stretched the advantage to 3-0 and forced a Mustang timeout with 21:59 showing.

Watkins scored off an Anna Beaudry (Amherst, Mass./Amherst Regional) 47 seconds on the other side of the stoppage to cap the opening burst.
