Maloney, Fink Score SCAC Accolades
from press release
COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Junior midfielder Grace Maloney and sophomore goaltender Abby Fink were named Players of the Week by the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference for their performances during Colorado College's victories over Swarthmore College and The College of Wooster.
Maloney claimed the offensive award for the first time after recording seven goals and three assists during the two contests. She also had four draw controls, three ground balls and a pair of caused turnovers.
During the 13-11 victory over Swarthmore, Maloney scored four goals to help CC overcome an 8-5 second-half deficit. In the 13-7 win against Wooster, she had three goals and set up three other scores to tie her career highs of six points and three assists in a game.
Fink earned the defensive honor for the second week in a row after stopping 26 of 44 shots, including 10 of 21 free-position attempts, in the two victories. Of the 18 goals she allowed during the two games, eight were scored on free-position shots.
During the triumph over Swarthmore, Fink made 10 of her 16 saves during the second half, six of which came on free-position shots. Her total of 16 saves is the most she has recorded in any of her 11 career victories. Holding the Garnet to 11 goals was an impressive feat considering it scored 36 goals against two other opponents. Fink stopped 10 of 17 shots on goal vs. Wooster, an NCAA Tournament team in 2010.
Colorado College plays its first-ever SCAC game on Wednesday when Millsaps College visits Stewart Field.
