Salisbury Earns Second Shutout, TCNJ Next

from press release

SALISBURY, Md. – The second-ranked Salisbury University women's lacrosse team topped Marymount (Va.) University on Wednesday afternoon at Sea Gull Stadium, 19-0, collecting the program's 65th-straight Capital Athletic Conference win and the team's second shutout of the year.

Salisbury also shut out Hood College on March 29. It marks just the second time in CAC history that a team has shut out two conference opponents in one year; Salisbury also pulled off the feat in 2008, blanking Hood in the regular season and the CAC tournament.

Six different Sea Gulls scored in the game, with five of them either matching or setting a career high in goals in the game. Sophomore Roxanne Raab matched her career-best effort with four goals while freshmen Shelby Nemecek and Katelyn Blondino set new career highs with four tallies as well.

To go with her quartet of goals, Raab also dished out five assists. The five helpers and nine points are both career highs for the Fallston, Md., native.

Salisbury (13-1, 7-0 CAC) jumped out to an early lead, scoring four times in the first seven minutes of the game, and never looked back. The Sea Gulls took an 11-0 lead into halftime having dominated defensively, forcing 16 turnovers by Marymount (4-8, 1-5 CAC) and holding the Saints just 2-for-10 on clearing chances in the first 30 minutes.

For the game, Marymount was 4-for-13 on clear chances and got off just five shots. Freshman goalie Ashton Wheatley picked up her first career victory for the Gulls, playing nearly 40 minutes in the cage, being forced to turn away just one Marymount shot. Sophomore Caity Coleman stopped two shots as she preserved the shutout.

The Sea Gulls, who have clinched the top seed in the upcoming CAC tournament, will be back on the Sea Gull Stadium field on Sunday morning for a key match-up against top-ranked The College of New Jersey. Salisbury topped the Lions in the regional final of the 2010 NCAA tournament on its way to the program's first national championship
