No. 12 Bowdoin Masters Bates

BRUNSWICK, Maine - Katie Stewart scored three times as the Bowdoin College women's lacrosse team held Bates scoreless for a span of 35:07 in an 11-6 NESCAC victory on Wednesday at Ryan Field. The 12th-ranked Polar Bears improve to 10-2 (5-2 NESCAC) while the 19th-ranked Bobcats fall to 7-5 (3-4 NESCAC).
Katie Stewart added four caused turnovers, five ground balls and two draw controls to her game-high three tallies. Carolyn Gorajek scored two goals and two assists for the Polar Bears, who have won 17 of their last 18 meetings with Bates dating back to 1994. Briana Gross had two goals for the Bobcats.
The Polar Bears jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the first 7:11 thanks to a goal and two assists from Gorajek. After Gross cut the lead to 4-2 at the 16:34 mark of the first half, Bates went scoreless for the next 35:07, spanning the remainder of the opening period and well into the second half. During the scoreless streak, Bowdoin tallied five times to increase their lead to 9-2 with under 12 minutes to play.
The Bobcats came alive with four goals in 4:14 and came within three goals, 9-6, on Joan O'Neill score with 7:13 to go. Bowdoin was able to stem the tide and sealed the win with two late scores from Katy Dissinger and Stewart.
Tara Connolly made nine saves in net for Bowdoin, who held a 30-20 edge in shots. Bates' Mara Krueger stopped 10 shots for the Bobcats.
