Bollhorst Leads CAC Honorees

from press release

YORK, Pa. - Salisbury junior attack Katie Bollhorst (Severna Park, Md./St. Mary's) was selected as the Player of the Year and was one of seven conference champion Sea Gulls named to the 2012 All-CAC Women's Lacrosse team. Bollhorst, a first-time All-CAC honoree, is the ninth Salisbury player to be named Player of the Year and the sixth in the last eight years.

Marymount freshman Megan McGuirk (Baltimore, Md./Mount De Sales Academy) was picked by the conference coaches as the Rookie of the Year. She joins SpringAnne Hatfield (2006) as the only Saints in CAC history to win the top award for rookies.
York's Jen Muston was selected by her peers for the second-straight year as the Coach of the Year. Muston, the second coach in the team's seven-year history, guided the Spartans to a record 14 wins this season.

Salisbury and York, the teams that played for the 2012 CAC championship, each placed seven players on the all-conference squad. All seven Sea Gull all-stars were named to the All-CAC first team, including four first-time all-stars, while YCP placed three players on the top squad and four on the second team.

Teammates joining Bollhorst on the All-CAC team include junior attack Lauren Feusahrens (Solomons Island, Md./St. Mary's Ryken), senior midfielder Alyssa Fowler (Odenton, Md./Arundel), senior midfielder Allie Wheatley (Cambridge, Md./Salisbury School), junior defender Alyssa Hardesty (Ocean City, Md./Stephen Decatur), sophomore defender Meghan Toomey (Annapolis, Md./St. Mary's) and sophomore goalie Ashton Wheatley (Cambridge, Md./Salisbury School).

Fowler and Allie Wheatley were first-round all-conference picks in 2011 while Hardesty was a second-round choice last year for the Gulls, who are undefeated in 18 contests this year and ranked No. 1 in the country.

York, which finished second in the regular season and is ranked 10th nationally, returned three juniors to the All-CAC first team - attack Kim Wayson (Harwood, Md./Southern), midfield Leah Schultz (Catonsville, Md./Seton Keough) and defender Katie Vautier (Harwood, Md./Archbishop Spalding). Wayson and Schultz are three-time All-CAC honorees.

Spartans on the second-team all-conference squad include sophomore attack Erica Mulford (Crownsville, Md./Seton Keough), sophomore midfielder Kerri Nicolich (Islip, N.Y./Islip), junior defender Jordan Hall (Riva, Md./South River) and junior goalie Kelsey Evans (Bel Air, Md./Fallston). Hull was a second-team pick last year while the other three are All-CAC newcomers.
Third place and 11th-ranked Mary Washington gained six positions on the 2012 All-CAC squad while fourth place and 17th-ranked Stevenson picked up five all-conference awards.

UMW was led by senior attackers Catherine Kennedy (Baltimore, Md./Lutheran) and Allie Kimmelman (Burke, Va./Robinson) along with junior defender Katie Mastropaolo (Ruckersville, Va./Albemarle). Second-team choices included junior attack Keller Torrey (Roswell, Ga./Centennial), sophomore midfielder Jenna Petrucelli (Cranbury, N.J./Peddie School) and senior defender Jenny Atmar (Houston, Texas/Bellaire).

Kennedy completes her career as a four-time first-team All-CAC player. She was also the Player of the Year in 2011 and the Rookie of the Year in 2009. Kimmelman was also a four-time all-conference honoree, including three first-team nods. Atmar is making her third-straight appearance on the All-CAC team while Mastropaolo and Torrey were second-team all-stars in 2011.
Stevenson's all-conference nods went to sophomore midfielder Marissa Meiklejohn (Severn, Md./Old Mill) and senior defender Lauren Taguding (Baltimore, Md./Towson) on the first team and sophomore attack Leah Warner (Pasadena, Md./Northeast), senior defender Sarah Pincus (New Market, Md./Liganore) and senior keeper Jenny Schroeder (Severna Park, Md./Seton Keough).

Taguding is a three-time all-conference honoree, including a pair of first-team awards, while Schroeder is making her second-straight All-CAC team appearance.

Junior midfielder Erin Shackelford (Annapolis, Md./Annapolis) picked up a first-team all-star berth for St. Mary's, while the Seahawks also placed junior attack Emily Shafer (Hollywood, Md./Leonardtown) and freshman defender Paige Decker (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) on the second team. All three Seahawks are first-time honorees.

In addition to McGuirk winning the Rookie of the Year award, Marymount junior Stephanie Flood (Westborough, Mass./Westborough) and freshman defender Molly Maher (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville) gained second-team all-star awards. Flood was also a second-team all-conference selection in 2010.

School record-setting scorer Alyssa Prudente (Manchester, Md./Hereford) of Wesley and Frostburg State sophomore midfielder Malory Brunett (Clarksville, Md./River Hill) were also named by the CAC coaches to the second-team all-star squad. Prudente is a first-time All-CAC honoree while Brunett is a repeat pick as a second-team all-star.
