Suspensions Force W&L Women to Forfeit Opener
Injuries, illnesses also factor in forfeiture
from staff reports
LEXINGTON, Va. – Several Washington and Lee women's lacrosse players have been suspended for "a violation of team expectations," which along with injuries and illnesses have forced the Generals to forfeit their Feb. 20 season opener at St. Mary's (Md.). They could not field a full team for the contest, the university announced Friday.
Washington and Lee coach Brooke O'Brien said the suspended players did not break university policies or any laws, but had failed to comply with regulations to which all players had agreed. They will be eligible for the Generals' next scheduled game Feb. 23 at Christopher Newport.
St. Mary's will open its 2013 season Feb. 23 against Dickinson at St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, Md.
