Mount Union Women Crunch Keuka

ALLIANCE, Ohio –In just its second season as a varsity sport, the Mount Union women's lacrosse team hosted and won an NCAA Tournament game with a 16-5 victory over Keuka (N.Y.) in a first round game Wednesday at Mount Union Stadium.

The Purple Raiders now 16-2 overall advance to face No. 1 ranked SUNY Cortland Saturday in a second round game in Cortland, N.Y.

Emily Sendker (Lancaster, N.Y./Lancaster Central) matched her season-high with six points (5G, 1A) and Katherine Doraty (Medina/Medina) had five goals and an assist to lead a Mount Union squad that put up 16 goals on the nation's No. 1 scoring defense in Keuka.

The Raiders defense got seven ground balls and three caused turnovers from Kolbie Haines (Hudson/Hudson) while goal keeper Casey McHenry (Hudson/Hudson) had 13 saves.

Maggie Bonafede had three assists and Jennifer Burt had two goals for Keuka (16-3).

Mount Union ran out to a 7-3 lead in the game's first 19 minutes with Sendker scoring three of her goals over that span.

Keuka would score a goal at the 9:06 mark before the Raiders scored three straight goals to take their largest lead of the half, 10-4 with 1:40 left in the period.

Keuka tallied another score just before halftime to make it 10-5 at the break.

Mount Union shutout the Storm in the second half and put up six more goals for the 16-5 final.
