HSG: CNY Showdown to Benefit Cancer Research
from press release
"Every 11 minutes, breast cancer claims another life." A year ago, one of those lives was beloved Tully, N.Y, resident and lacrosse parent Patricia Bailey. The Tully and Bishop Ludden School communities will partner with the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of Central New York to counter this statistic in upstate New York.
On May 21, at 7 p.m., the Tully High School girls' lacrosse team will host Bishop Ludden in an Under the Lights Benefit Game to combat breast cancer in memory of Patricia Bailey. All ticket sales, chicken barbecue, concession sales and many other fund raisers prior to and during the game will go to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of CNY to allow researchers to learn more about this disease. The Tully Teachers Association will also be encouraging chaperones to turn over their stipends for the evening to this worthwhile cause.
The Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund of CNY is committed to battling breast cancer by supporting both new and established researchers. To date, the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund has awarded more than 21 research grants in upstate New York totaling in excess of $1 million to medical research. This year funds will be raised to support a $50,000 research grant in Mrs. Bailey's memory.
To date, there have been many significant advances in the methods of detection and treatments for breast cancer, yet many women continue to lose their battle for life every year as they succumb to the devastating effects of this disease. The mission of the Research Fund and the Under the Lights Benefit Game is to work together to find a cure-nothing less.
"Together We Will Find a Cure!" is the message Carol Baldwin and her family bring to you because they believe it. As these two Central New York rivals come together many supporting organizations will also join in this wonderful cause. The host team will be wearing pink jerseys (donated for this event) to visually signal their support for research in this area. Various events, including raffles and auctions will be scheduled throughout the evening.
Community members and organizations in each of the two communities are challenged to add their own fund raisers to game contributions to make this competition an event from which all will emerge as winners. Tax deductible contributions should be made payable to the Carol M. Baldwin Breast Cancer Research Fund, Inc. and mailed to the office of either school. The total raised for this event will be announced at half-time of the game.
Every penny of the funds raised during this Under the Lights Benefit Game will remain in upstate New York to fund research to find a cure and dramatically reduce the lives claimed by breast cancer in the future.
