Game of the Week
East Grand Rapids (Mich.) at Rockford (Mich.), May 7
Rockford seeks revenge in their final home game of the 2014 season. They lost to the Pioneers 11-9 on April 21 for their only loss to a Michigan opponent this season. They may need the lift given the high caliber of teams they finish off against, including Medina (Ohio) and Loyola Academy (Ill.). They are just 3-2-1 after winning their first seven.
Midwest Region Top 10
1. New Trier (Ill.), 15-0-1
The Trevians picked up their biggest win yet, downing Loyola Academy (Ill.) to end a streak of nine straight losses to the Ramblers.
2. Loyola Academy (Ill.), 13-5
The Ramblers bounced right back from a rare in-state loss with a thumping of Eden Prairie (Minn.). This team is still very much the team to beat in the region, but keep in mind they've averaged 10.6 goals per game over their last five, good but not overwhelming.
3. Sycamore (Ohio), 12-0
The Aviators should roll into the postseason with an undefeated record with very little trouble, meaning they'd be blessed with home-field advantage all the way until the Final Four once again.
4. Medina (Ohio), 12-2
The Battling Bees were nothing short of brilliant this past weekend, holding a triad of Michigan's best teams to 23 combined goals. Wins over Rockford (Mich.), Okemos (Mich.) and East Grand Rapids (Mich.) send a loud message about Medina's talent entering the postseason.
5. Mason (Ohio), 9-2
The Comets might be living up to some of that early-season hype after their five-goal win over Upper Arlington (Ohio). Where they stand in the region will be more clear after they end their season against a slew of talented Illinois teams.
6. Eden Prairie (Minn.), 6-1
The Eagles once again fell well short against Loyola Academy (Ill.). They'll have plenty of chances to prove themselves with six of their final seven on the road, including matches against undefeated Benilde-St. Maragret's (Minn.) and the Blake School (Minn.).
7. Blake School (Minn.), 6-0
Give the Bears credit. They have averaged 17.7 goals per game while playing five of their first six on the road. Don't expect such numbers against their next four foes: Benilde-St. Maragret's (Minn.), Loyola Academy (Ill.), New Trier (Ill.) and Hinsdale Central (Ill.).
8. Hinsdale Central (Ill.), 9-2
The Red Devils are on a scoring tear, with 68 goals in their last four games after managing three against New Trier (Ill.).
9. Rockford (Mich.), 10-2-1
We'll learn a lot about Rockford over the next six games. They'll go to Caledonia (Mich.), which they needed two overtimes to beat earlier this season, and Okemos (Mich.), while also traveling to Illinois, for marquee matches against Hinsdale Central (Ill.) and Loyola Academy (Ill.).
10. Park Tudor (Ind.), 11-3
The Panthers have surrendered just four goals per game since allowing 26 in a pair of games against Volunteer State teams. A 14-11 win over Cathedral (Ind.) and near-win at Culver Academy (Ind.) were both impressive.
South Lyon (Mich.) won over Northville (Mich.) despite the absence of Hannah Burczyk, who was struck in the head by a ball.
Allison Kurek notched five goals for Nazareth (Ill.) to lead it to victory over Sandburg/Andrew/Stagg (Ill.). Madison Lozanoski added four goals as the Roadrunners literally ran away with it. Teammate Anne Canent, a captain, is headed to play at John Carroll University.
After scoring in the single digits in three of five, Montini (Ill.) has scored 56 over its last three, including a good win over a decent Birmingham (Mich.) team.
It's worth noting that Neuqua Valley (Ill.) has won five straight since a close loss to Glenbrook South (Ill.) and 9 of 10.
MICDS (Mo.) has allowed just 6.1 goals per game en route to a 10-0 start.
