Greer Scores Four in Lizards Debut
from press release
In what was otherwise a back-and-forth game through the first three quarters, the Lizards dominated in the fourth, taking advantage of three Toronto penalties to score three unanswered goals and win, 13-9.
The Nationals were previously unbeaten this season. The Lizards are now 2-1.
And a mere 48 hours after being drafted by the Lizards in the first round of the 2009 MLL Collegiate Draft, Zack Greer made his presence known, scoring four goals, adding one assist, and being named Bud Light MVP in his first MLL game.
Check out the third-quarter stat sheet and you will see a very familiar sight: Greer goal, assisted by Matt Danowski. The former dynamic duo from Duke have officially been reunited on the Lizards. Danowski and Greer share the all-time record for points in NCAA Division I history with 353.
Stephen Berger once again put up solid numbers for the Lizards, scoring three goals and one assist. Chris Fiore put up three points, including a two-point goal and one assist.
Brian Dougherty was once again strong for the Lizards in net, posting 16 saves, including 10 in the second half. Pete Vlahakis remained a warrior at the faceoff X for the Lizards, winning 54 percent of his draws and scooping up seven ground balls.
The Lizards return to action one week from tonight on Friday June 5 when they will host the Boston Cannons. Game time is set for 7 p.m. at Hofstra University's Shuart Stadium.
