Long Island Moves Into Second Place

Brian Dougherty made 15 saves as Long Island edged Boston 11-10 to move a half game ahead of the Cannons into second place in the Major League Lacrosse standings on Thursday.

Long Island scored the first three goals of the game and led 6-2 midway through the second quater before Boston stormed back, eventually taking a 7-6 lead on a two-pointer by Paul Rabil with 9:38 remaining in the third quarter. Long Island then scored five of the next six goals, including two by Tim Goettelmann to take the game.

Goettleman led the Lizards with three goals while Stephen Peyser and Matt Danowski each added two goals. Rabil led Boston with five points on three goals, inclduing the two-pointer, and an assist. Matt Alrich also had two goals for Boston and Chris Eck won 14-of-24 faceoffs over Long Island's Chris Mascaretti.

Boston had won four straight games, including last weekend's win over league-leading Denver, since a June 5 overtime loss to Long Island. Three of Boston's four losses this season have come against Long Island.
