Six point outings from rookie Mark Cockerton (Virginia) and Dave Lawson helped the Rattlers take a big showdown Sunday afternoon against top-ranked Denver, 19-14. Lawson (4G, 2A) scored the first two of a seven goal run that turned a 1-0 Outlaws lead into a 7-1 second quarter advantage for the Rattlers, with Cockerton scoring the first of his six goals in the second quarter (off, naturally, a Lawson feed).

The victory moves Rochester to 6-3 on the season, just a game behind Denver (7-2) in the standings. Both teams are unbeaten at home, with Denver taking a 15-8 win in the teams' earlier bout, which took place in Denver.

Scoring was balanced in the winning effort for Rochester, which led 11-4 at the half and never let the Outlaws get closer than a five-goal gap the rest of the way. Seven players had goals, with Jordan Wolf putting together a hat-trick and Justin Turri adding two goals and two assists. In net, John Galloway made eight saves in 60 minutes of work to ice the win.

Drew Sinder (4G), John Grant, Jr. (2G, 2A) and Jeremy Seiverts (2G, 1 2-point, 1A) each had four points for Denver, with Eric Law adding a hat-trick. Anthony Kelly (14-for-27) and Brent Hiken (6-for-9) combined for a dominating 20-for-36 day at the X, but the possession advantage didn't play out in Denver's favor. Charlie Cipriano made 10 saves and allowed five goals and earned the loss. Jesse Schwartzman allowed 15 goals and saved seven in his portion of the day's work.

Denver returns home for Friday's annual 4th of July affair at Sports Authority Field - an event paired with Denver's fireworks display that consistently draws a record crowd like the 31,049 who were on hand for the 2013 edition. They host Boston (4-5), which fell 15-12 to Charlotte on Saturday evening. Earlier in the year, Denver edged the Cannons by a 10-9 score in overtime.

Rochester has an extra day of rest before taking on Charlotte on Saturday night, where they hope to earn their second road win of the year. The two have not faced off yet this season.
