Rookies Lead Rochester into Playoffs, End Boston's Season
from staff reports
BOSTON -- Rookies Miles Thompson and Jordan Wolf combined for 11 points, as the Rochester Rattlers stormed out to a 12-2 lead and never looked back, defeating the Boston Cannons 18-8 before 9,281 disappointed fans at Harvard Stadium.
Boston needed a win and an Ohio Machine loss to advance to the Major League Lacrosse (MLL) playoffs. Neither happened Saturday, as Ohio defeated the Florida Launch to clinch the fourth and final playoff spot. The Machine will play at Rochester, a team that continues to click on all cylinders and on both ends of the field.
The Rattlers, who held the Cannons to just one first-half goal in Week 2, limited them to just two goals in the first half Saturday. Goalie John Galloway made 15 saves before giving way to Jason LaShomb, who added six saves in fourth-quarter mop-up duty.
Stephen Berger scored three goals for Boston. Matt Striebel added two.
