NLL: Colin Doyle Named Overall Player of the Week

Toronto Rock forward Colin Doyle was named the National Lacrosse League’s Overall Player of the Week for Week 2 of the 2010 NLL Season.
Doyle was directly involved in six of the eight goals Toronto scored on Friday in an 8-7 overtime win over the Boston Blazers. He scored two goals and tallied four assists in a game where goals were few and far between. One of his assists came on the overtime winner, which was scored by Garrett Billings and made ESPN SportsCenter Top 10 Plays of the night.
Doyle also won the Offensive Player of the Week honors.
The Week #2 NLL schedule consisted of games played on the weekend
of Jan. 15-16.
Colorado Mammoth forward Ilija Gajic was voted Rookie of the Week, picking up the first award of his young NLL career. Gajic, who played college lacrosse at Denver University and was the second overall player selected in the 2009 Entry Draft, scored four goals and tallied three assists in a 14-13 loss to the Edmonton Rush on Saturday.
Philadelphia Wings goaltender Brandon Miller was named Defensive Player of the Week. Miller stopped 41 of the 49 shots he faced as the Wings defeated Boston, 12-8.
The Transition Player of the Week was Bobby McBride of the Rochester Knighthawks. McBride registered a goal, an assist (1G, 1A) and picked up eight loose balls in Rochester’s 13-11 win at Buffalo.
The NLL Weekly Player Awards are determined each week by a vote of the general managers and head coaches of the league’s 11 member clubs.
