|John Tavares is just one goal shy of 700 for his career after a two-goal, six-assist performance in the Bandits' 15-12 victory over Minnesota on Friday.|
The Buffalo Bandits (3-2) defeated the Minnesota Swarm (3-2) by the score of 15-12 Friday night in front of 15,001 fans at HSBC Arena in Buffalo, NY. John Tavares scored twice for the Bandits, bringing his career regular season goals total to 699.
The Swarm came into Friday night's tilt riding a three-game winning streak, but couldn't get things going early and were never able to get a lead. The Bandits were able to get ahead with five goals in the first quarter and never looked back.
By the end of the first half, the Bandits doubled up the Swarm on the scoreboard (8-4) and the shots column (28-14).
Despite a spirited second half comeback that led to eight goals, the Swarm couldn't get ahead of the Bandits. The Bandits' offensive firepower, led by transition player Mark Steenhuis (3g, 1a) and Tavares (2g, 6a), couldn't be stopped by Swarm goaltender Nick Patterson and his defense.
Problems in the face-off dot proved to hurt the Swarm as well, where they only managed eight wins on 31 attempts. The Swarm's power play unit was 1-for-3 on the night while the Bandits connected for two goals on six attempts.
The Swarm will head to Rochester next week, as they take on the Knighthawks on Saurday, Feb. 12 with face-off set for 7:35pm ET. The Bandits head to Philadelphia the same evening for a match up with the Wings at 7:00pm ET. Tavares will be looking for his 700th career regular season goal in the contest.
