from press release

CALGARY
- The Calgary Roughnecks (8-3) defended their home turf with a 19-14 win over the Edmonton Rush (2-9) Saturday night at the Scotiabank Saddledome. Dane Dobbie led the Roughnecks with five goals to go along with three assists.

After trailing 9-8 at halftime, Edmonton gained control of the game in the third quarter behind goals by Dean Hill, Scott Evans and recent addition Kyle Sweeney. Another recent addition - goaltender Rob Blasdell - also contributed in the third quarter by helping the Rush defense hold the 'Necks to just one tally in the period.

Calgary entered the final quarter down 11-10, but scored nine goals in the final frame to outpace the Rush. Scott Ranger scored three of his four goals in the quarter, while top rookie scorer Curtis Dickson contributed with two scores. Nolan Heavenor, Geoff Snider and Daryl Veltman each scored once in the decisive stanza.

Dickson finished with six points (3g, 3a) while Jeff Shattler pitched in with nine points (1g, 8a) in the victory. Goaltender Mike Poulin made 31 saves on 42 shots faced in 56:45 of action.

Edmonton was led by Evans (4g, 3a) and Ryan Ward (2g, 5a). Zack Greer, recently acquired by Edmonton in a trade with Minnesota, scored two goals and two assists while Corey Small added five assists. Blasdell had 27 saves in 57:18 of action.

Calgary plays next on Friday, March 25 when they host the East Division leading Toronto Rock at 9:30pm ET. It was announced this week that both the Roughnecks and Rock became the first two teams to clinch playoff berths.

Edmonton hosts the Minnesots Swarm that same Friday evening at 9pm ET.
