from press releases
NEW YORK -- The National Lacrosse League has announced the winners of the Weekly Player Awards for Week 2 of the NLL season.
Colorado Mammoth forward John Grant wins the Offensive Player of the Week award. Grant scored four goals and assisted on seven others for 11 points in the Mammoth 20-14 win over the Minnesota Swarm this past Saturday.
"John had a great game and helped the offense tie a franchise record for goals," said Mammoth President & General Manager Steve Govett.
"I was excited by the team's performance," said Grant. "It's nice to be with an offense that clicked so early in the season. I think the sky's the limit."
The 12-year-veteran is now 12 points shy of becoming the fifth player in league history with 1,000 career regular-season points. Grant is the NLL's all-time leader in career points-per-game (6.29). He led the Mammoth with 36 goals, 47 assists and 83 points in his first season with the team in 2011.
Buffalo Bandits goaltender Mike Thompson wins the Defensive Player of the Week Award. Thompson made 41 saves on 51 shots faced in the Bandits' 14-10 win over the Toronto Rock this past Saturday.
The Transition Player of the Week Award goes to Jordan Hall of the Rochester Knighthawks. Hall scored two goals and assisted on six others for an eight point game. Hall also scooped up six loose balls in a 22-12 win at Philadelphia.
Philadelphia Wings forward Kevin Crowley wins Rookie of the Week. In his NLL debut, the 2011 #1 overall draft pick scored three goals and assisted on five others for eight points in a 22-12 loss to Rochester.
The NLL Weekly Player Awards are determined each week by a vote of the General Managers & Head Coaches of the league's nine member clubs.
