NLL Week 9 Awards: Grant, Croswell, Suitor, Hopcroft

from press release

The National Lacrosse League has announced the winners of the weekly player awards for Week 9 of the 2012 season.

For the third time this season, John Grant Jr. of the Colorado Mammoth has been named the Offensive Player of the Week. Grant scored four goals and tallied five assists last Saturday night in a 16-13 win over Buffalo.  His fourth goal was the 500th of his career. Earlier this season, Grant was the fifth player ever to notch 1,000 points. Grant, who leads the NLL in goals (31), power-play goals (12) and points (68), is the reigning two-time NLL Player of the Month.  With the win, Colorado improved their league-best record to 7-1.

Stealth Goaltender Kevin Croswell was selected as Defensive Player of the Week after an outstanding debut with Washington. Signed last week to replace the injured Tyler Richards, Croswell stopped 41 of 50 shots and the Stealth snapped a three-game losing streak by beating Toronto 14-9 on Saturday at the Air Canada Centre.

Minnesota’s Andrew Suitor took Transition Player of the Week honors for the second time in 2012. The Swarm’s captain scored two goals and collected six loose balls in last Saturday’s 15-11 win over Calgary. M

ammoth forward Derek Hopcroft collected Rookie of the Week honors. He set a career-high with four goals on just six shots and drew an assist in the win over Buffalo last Saturday. Hopcroft is the second Colorado rookie to win the weekly award this season. Adam Jones was named the top rookie in Week 3.

The weekly player award winners are selected by a vote of the league’s general managers and head coaches.
