Swarm Signs Energetic Defenseman Kelly
from press release
SAINT PAUL, Minn. – The National Lacrosse League's Minnesota Swarm on Wednesday re-signed D Matt Kelly to a one-year contract.
Kelly, 25, collected 15 loose balls in seven games during his rookie season with Minnesota in 2011. The native of Kenilworth, Ill. also recorded an assist and collected three loose balls in the Swarm's home playoff game against Washington (4/30/11). Minnesota acquired Kelly in the sixth round (54th overall) of the 2009 NLL Entry Draft after the 6-foot, 200-pound defenseman played four years at the University of Virginia.
"Matt brings a ton of energy, a great work ethic, and is a non-stop guy," Associate General Manager Joe Sullivan said. "But bigger than that, he's a guy who just wants to learn and be better, and you see that in everything he does. Having Matt Kelly take his game to the next level will be huge for our defense next year."
The signing is currently pending league approval.
