Shewchuk's Strike Leads Mammoth By Wings

from Press Release

DENVER – With John Grant Jr. out of the line-up for the regular-season finale, Jamie Shewchuk's power-play goal with 2:02 remaining in regulation gave the Colorado Mammoth a 13-12 win over the Philadelphia Wings at Wells Fargo Center on Saturday night. The Mammoth enters the playoffs on a three-game winning streak.

"Our power-play was moving the ball really well; I just got in a good spot and got a heck of a pass from [Iannucci]," said Shewchuk, referring to the game-winner. "I just kind of closed my eyes, threw it at the goal, and it went in."

Colorado leaned heavily on Adam Jones, who led all scorers with five goals to finish the season with a career-best 39.

"The ball was flying, and that was the game-plan coming in," said the 24-year-old who also added two assists. "We had a bit of a different line-up. We wanted to get everyone involved early. We had a rough start in the first quarter but as the game progressed, we continually got better."

The Mammoth trailed 3-2 after 15 minutes, and found itself down by a goal after the third. But it was resilient, even in a game that lacked playoff implications.

Next Saturday, the Mammoth takes on the Calgary Roughnecks at Scotiabank Saddledome in Alberta in the West Division Semifinal. Colorado beat Calgary in two of three meetings this season. The take-away from tonight's game as the team looks ahead to the postseason?

"Keep building on what we've been building on the last month!" said coach Dan Stroup.

If the Mammoth defeats the Roughnecks, it will host Game One of the West Division Final against the Edmonton Rush on Friday or Saturday, May 9 or 10 on HealthONE Field at Pepsi Center.
