by Emily Gibson | US Lacrosse | "Countdown to Convention" Home

Happy new year, lacrosse fans!

The 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention is right around the corner, and US Lacrosse has a little surprise.

The start of a new year is a perfect time to make resolutions. This year, US Lacrosse has a few suggestions for you to either start your list or add to your "I've started, but can't quite put my finger on what's missing" list.

1. Stop procrastinating and be proactive! US Lacrosse is giving all the procrastinators out there a final chance to register for Convention. We have extended the deadline to Jan. 9, 11:59 p.m. (more info below). Don't wait until Jan. 9, 11:58 p.m., to log on and sign up. Because we couldn't leave the season of giving just yet, we also kept the same price of $100.

2. Be a part of something big! Join and become a member of US Lacrosse today! There are all kinds of memberships ranging from youth to coach to fan and more. Your membership will give you special access and privileges to Lacrosse Magazine, the Coaching Education Program Mobile Coach App and much more.

3. Give back to your community! Lend a hand as a coach, official or program administrator. What better way to give than to serve? Helping the youth play a sport with a team dynamic can help improve teamwork on and off the field. Get US Lacrosse-certified as a coach or official. Start a new program or help out an existing one as a program administrator.

The 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention is geared towards making these resolutions a reality. How will you live your life this year?

Don't forget, you only have four days left to register! Let's start 2011 off right together.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE EXTENDED

The deadline to register online for the 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention has been extended. What was originally supposed to close at midnight on Dec. 31 has now been extended to Jan. 9. US Lacrosse saw record numbers of coaches and officials scrambling to register before the end of the year and made the decision to extend the opportunity for an extra week. Now, the biggest educational and networking event in the sport of lacrosse is still available for only $100. After Jan. 9 though, online registration closes and late comers can register in-person at the event for $150.

The 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention has over 150 educational sessions for youth, high school and college coaches and officials over a span of three lacrosse-filled days. On-site registration and packet pick-up opens Jan. 20 at 5 p.m., with sessions kicking off Jan. 21 capped by the marquee keynote speaker, Jackie Joyner-Kersee, at 7 p.m. The 2011 US Lacrosse National Convention is in Baltimore, Md. at the Baltimore Convention Center.

For lax fans who want to soak up the energy and ambiance of the world's largest lacrosse EXPO, Fan Fest is open to all ages on Sat., Jan. 22 from 12-4 p.m. in the Baltimore Convention Center for just $10. Get Fan Fest details here.

Fan Fest will take place Saturday, Jan. 22 from 12 to 4 p.m. at the Baltimore Convention Center. During this time, the largest lacrosse exhibition in the country will open its doors to the public. Reebok, the equipment sponsor of the US Lacrosse Coaching Education Program instructional clinics, will bring its Watermelon Challenge to Fan Fest, where fans will get a chance to mix it up with professional players in the contest and attempt to explode a watermelon with a lacrosse ball.

"With the help of dedicated outlets like ABC2, WMAR-TV, lacrosse is gaining more visibility and popularity in the media, through which lacrosse is available to people who might not otherwise get to see a game," said Bill Rubacky, US Lacrosse managing director of communications. "Last year we had a record attendance enjoy Fan Fest. This year we look forward to working with ABC2 to welcome anyone who wants to get a closer look at the game and industry."
