BALTIMORE — US Lacrosse today announced that retired NBA official Bob Delaney will give a featured address at the 2013 US Lacrosse National Convention, presented by Champion. Delaney will speak to the convention's audience of lacrosse officials, coaches and administrators at 6 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 12, 2013, at the Pennsylvania Convention Center in Philadelphia.

Delaney's NBA officiating career began in 1987 and spanned more than 1,700 regular season games, 180 playoff contests and 9 finals. He worked the 1998 and 2011 NBA All-Star Games, as well as the 1994 Opening NBA Games in Yokohama, Japan, and the 2011 China Games in Beijing and Guangzhou. He received the prestigious Gold Whistle Award from the National Association of Sports Officials in 2003. NBA Commissioner David Stern named Delaney NBA Cares ambassador as part of the NBA Social Responsibility and Players Programs in 2011.

"I am honored to be the officials keynote speaker for the 2013 US Lacrosse National Convention," Delaney said. "While we tend to stay within our sport when discussing officiating, the reality is we have a common ground with so many subjects like leadership, teamwork, communication and mental conditioning. I look forward to being with all of the lacrosse officials in Philadelphia this coming January and experiencing the phrase I use often, some people go through experiences while others grow through experiences. I am positive we will all grow as a result of our time together at the US Lacrosse National Convention."

"US Lacrosse is honored to have Mr. Delaney speak at our convention," Beth Porreca, director of special events for US Lacrosse, said. "We believe he will appeal to both coaches and officials with his all-encompassing insights into leadership, teamwork, mental conditioning and stress management. We look forward to learning about and from his experiences on and off the court."

Prior to his 24-year career as an NBA official, Delaney worked for the New Jersey State Police. He is well known for his undercover work which infiltrated New Jersey mafia and is detailed in his book, Covert: My Years Infiltrating the Mob. As a result of his undercover work, Delaney went through post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). He has dedicated the last 30 years to speaking with members of law enforcement, military, firefighters and emergency service workers and continues to help while sharing his latest book, Surviving the Shadows: A Journey of Hope Into Post-Traumatic Stress.
