St. Michael's Close to Naming Interim Coach
With Brian Kingsbury officially ending his term as head coach at St. Michael's this past Friday (Jan. 25), the school is expected to name his interim replacement soon, according to St. Michael's athletic director Geraldine Knortz.
"We're just trying to hire an interim head coach and we're hoping to make a decision very shortly on that," Knortz said on Monday. "We'll launch a full search for the position for next fall and beyond sometime this spring."
Knortz said the institution hopes to conclude the process of finding a permanent head coach prior to the "end of the fiscal year."
Kingsbury was announced as the new head coach at Lynn University on Jan. 16. Lynn, a Division II school located in Boca Raton, Fla., will compete in its first full varsity season in 2014.
Kingsbury helped St. Michael's set the program record for wins last spring with an 11-5 mark and earn a third seed in the Northeast-10 Conference tournament. The Purple Knights were ranked No. 9 in Lacrosse Magazine's 2013 preseason poll.
St. Michael's is scheduled to start its season on March 9 at No. 2 Mercyhurst at 1 p.m.
