NEWARK, Del. -- The University of Delaware stormed out to a 5-1 lead after the first quarter and never looked back, getting hat tricks from three different players on the way to a 19-4 non-league men's lacrosse victory over Presbyterian at wind-blown Delaware Stadium Saturday afternoon.
John Austin (at right) and Eric Smith each scored three goals and dished out two assists, Sean Finegan scored the first three goals of his career and Dan Cooney won 17 of 19 faceoffs, as the No. 17-ranked Blue Hens got scoring from 11 different players and improved to 2-0 for the seventh time in the last eight seasons.
Nick Diachenko and Dan Keane each added two goals apiece for the Hens.
Short-handed Presbyterian (0-1), which will move to full-time NCAA Divison I classification next season, got two goals from Andrew Athens and one each from Imari Davis and Derek Malone. The Red Hose, coming off a 1-9 record a year ago, lost their 10 straight as they played just 15 players during the contest.
