Rutgers Readies for Big City Classic

PISCATAWAY, N.J. – The Rutgers men's lacrosse team (5-3, 0-1 BIG EAST) which is coming off back-to-back losses to top-10 opponents in Notre Dame and Army, will look to return to its winning ways in the 2011 Big City Classic at the New Meadowlands Stadium. The Scarlet Knights will face BIG EAST rival St. John's (2-6, 0-1 BIG EAST) on Sunday, April 3, at 1 p.m.
The matchup between the Scarlet Knights and Red Storm, which kicks off a lacrosse triple header at the state-of-the-art facility, will be broadcast live on ESPN3.com with Scott Corrigan providing play-by-play and Matt Ward on color analysis.
Rutgers has been led offensively by Duncan Clancy (Princeton, N.J.) and Scott Klimchak (Clark, N.J.). Clancy paces the squad with 23 points on seven goals and a team-leading 16 assists, while Klimchak is close behind with 22 points on 13 goals and nine assists.
The RU defense is led by Andrew D'Agostino (Syracuse, N.Y.), who has a team-best 15 caused turnovers and 29 ground balls. The Scarlet Knight defense also recieves solid play from senior captain Brian Shemesh (Hillsborough, N.J.).
Joe Donnelly (Newton Square, Pa.), who has four of RU's five wins, leads the Scarlet Knights between the pipes, ranking first in the nation in goals against average (5.62).
The Red Storm, coached by Jason Miller in his fifth season, are led on offense by Kevin Cernuto who has a team-best 27 points on 19 goals and eight assists. St. John's receives solid play between the pipes from Jeff Lowman who has tallied 100 saves on the season.
Rutgers leads the all-time series between the two rivals, 16-3, despite dropping an 11-10 decision last season in Piscataway.
