Brown Adds Dalgilesh, Turner to Coaching Staff
from press release
Brown head coach Lars Tiffany has made two new additions to his coaching staff with the naming of former Lafayette assistant Scott Dalgilesh and former Virginia All-American Kip Turner as assistant coaches.
Dalgliesh comes to Brown from Lafayette, where he was an assistant in 2010, helping the Leopards to their first-ever national ranking, reaching as high as eighth in the country. Managing the defense and face-off personnel, Dalgliesh constructed a defensive scheme that drastically improved Lafayette's saves per game, as well as a defensive philosophy that increased caused turnovers by 26-percent from the previous year.
"At the most fundamental of values I searched for in the hiring of this assistant coaching position, the drive and work ethic of the man were critical," said Tiffany. "As I interacted with him as a coach and recruiter over the past three years, Scott Dalgliesh has proven to me time and time again that he is deeply passionate about coaching and creating great teams. His experiences at both Marywood and Lafayette College certainly demonstrate that he has been a valuable staff member for both Mic Grant and Terry Mangan. I am excited to have Scott serve as the Brown lacrosse offensive coordinator."
Dalgliesh spent the 2008 and 2009 seasons as the assistant at Marywood University, guiding the squad to a 9-5 and 5-3 record in the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference (PAC) in 2008, the squad's first year of existence. Marywood followed that season up with a 10-7 overall record and 5-1 PAC record in 2009. At Marywood, he was responsible for a man-down defense that finished eighth in the country during 2008, stopping 86% of opponent's man-advantage opportunities. He also worked closely with face-off personnel that was ranked third in Division III and saw his defense ranked third at the conclusion of the year with an 8.93 goals against average. Dalgliesh was also responsible for all in-season and off-season training and workout regimens for the program.
A graduate of Dickinson College with a BA in Law & Policy, Dalgliesh is certified as a U.S. Lacrosse Level I Coaching trainer. He graduated with an undergraduate degree from Dickinson College in 2007 and got his masters degree in Public Administration at Marywood in 2009.
Turner is a 2007 graduate of the University of Virginia with a BA in Government, and a two-time USILA All-American and four-year lettermen for the Cavaliers. He was the UVA defensive MVP in 2006, leading the Cavaliers to the ACC Championship and NCAA title. Turner was an All-ACC first team selection in 2007, and named to the All-ACC Tournament team in 2006 and 2007.
"To watch Kip compete is to admire him: he is one of the game's best goalies, driven by talent and a competitive edge," said Tiffany. "To know Kip is to discover an insightful man who truly is concerned for the development of the men of the program. He begins his coaching career at Brown University, looking forward to the growth of both the team and himself as a coach. All of us are fortunate to have Kip Turner here, bringing an incredible amount of success on his resume and more importantly a genuine care to see the men of Brown succeed."
Turner also enjoyed a successful professional career after he was selected second overall in the Major League Lacrosse draft by the Boston Cannons, the highest goalie ever picked in a draft. He made an immediate impact, being named the Cannons' Defensive MVP in 2008. A three-time MLL Defensive Player of the Week in 2010, Turner was named the MLL Goalkeeper of the Year for his outstanding play.
