WINTER PARK, Fla. - With the Rollins men's lacrosse team's regular season slate getting underway in less than a month, the Tars have announced that Charlie Shelly, Eric Schmit, Matthew Lunnen, and Andrew Vossler have been selected as captains for the 2011 campaign.
"We are excited about having Shelly, Schmit, Lunnen and Vossler as this year's captains," said head coach RJ Rossi. "The coaching staff feels very strongly that these four student-athletes will play a big role in helping the Tars to new levels of success this season."
Shelly led the Tars in 2010 with 16 goals and tacked on six assists for 22 points, good for second on the team. After seeing time on the field in the 2008 and 2010 seasons, the senior attackman is the program leader in goals scored with 33, and tops the all-time points leaderboard with a total of 44.
Schmit, who transferred to Rollins from St. John's University, had a breakout season with the Tars in 2010, earning Deep South Conference Honorable Mention honors. The Deephaven, Minn. native tallied nine goals and three assists in his first year with Rollins, and earned a faceoff percentage of 57 percent winning 73-of-129. He completed his season second on the team in ground balls with 38.

Vossler has had an impressive two years with Rollins, earning 2010 Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Preseason All-American honors, as well as a nod on the 2009 Deep South Conference Honorable Mention team. The Manlius, N.Y. native has been named DSC Player Defensive Player of the Week for the period ending March 9, 2010, and has led the team in ground balls and caused turnovers for two consecutive seasons. Vossler leads the program leaderboard with 119 ground balls and 45 caused turnovers.
The Rollins men's lacrosse team opens its 2011 schedule on Saturday, February 12, when they take part in the 2011 Face-Off for a Cause to benefit the Wounded Warrior Project. The Tars will not only open their regular season at the event, but will also launch their conference slate as they will square off with Florida Southern in a Deep South Conference showdown.
