from press release
SYRACUSE, N.Y. – Senior attackman Vinnie Alexander (Syracuse, N.Y./Westhill/Onondaga C.C.) and freshman midfielder Andrew Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) scored three goals each to lead the fourth-ranked Le Moyne College men's lacrosse team to a 20-4 win over Franklin Pierce on Saturday afternoon in the Northeast-10 Conference opener for both teams at the Thomas J. Niland Athletic Complex.
The Dolphins opened the scoring 1:34 into the game as senior midfielder Nick DiSarro (Niskayuna, N.Y./Niskayuna) finished off a feed from classmate Jack Venditti (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) for his third goal of the year. Just over one minute later, Alexander netted his seventh goal of the season off a pass from Venditti.
After seven and one-half minutes of scoreless action, the Ravens got on the scoreboard as Ryan Dintaman scored an unassisted goal at the 4:54 mark of the opening quarter. Chadderdon closed out the scoring in the quarter with an unassisted tally with 3:28 left.
The Dolphins blew the game open with nine goals in a span of 12 minutes and three seconds in the third quarter. Redshirt junior midfielder Tyler Sennett (Syracuse, N.Y./Nottingham) ignited the run at the 14:00 mark by driving to the cage from the left wing for his third goal of the year. Senior face-off specialist/defensive midfielder Corey Bulken (Baldwinsville, N.Y./C.W. Baker) won the ensuing face-off and sprinted up field, where he found Venditti, who scored his team-best ninth goal of the season on the crease five seconds after Sennett's goal. Sennett added his second goal of the quarter with 12:31 remaining for a 6-1 Le Moyne lead.
Following a Le Moyne timeout, Chadderdon registered his second goal of the game at the 10:31 mark. Alexander increased the lead to seven by finishing off a pass from senior attackman Jack Harmatuk (Syracuse, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy/Syracuse U.) with 9:40 remaining. Off the ensuing face-off, senior midfielder Jikado Hanna (Hopkinton, Mass./Hopkinton/Bridgton Academy) picked up the ground ball on Le Moyne's side of the field, weaved through the Franklin Pierce defense and blasted a shot into the back of the net. Following back-and-forth action over the next three and one-half minutes, the Dolphins took advantage of an extra-man opportunity as Alexander scored his second man-up goal of the season off a pass from Venditti with 5:41 left before halftime. After sophomore goalkeeper Jeff White (Buffalo, N.Y./Canisius HS) stopped a shot by Dintaman with 2:19 remaining, he sent an out-let pass to Bulken, who raced the length of the field to score his first goal of the campaign. Freshman midfielder Kam Bumpus (Marshfield, Mass./Needham/Bridgton Academy) won the subsequent face-off and charged up field to net his third goal in two games just eight seconds after Bulken scored.
After 12 minutes and 15 seconds of slow-paced action in the third quarter, the Dolphins extended their lead to 13-1 as Chadderdon tallied an extra-man goal off a pass from Venditti.
Off a failed clear attempt in the opening minute of the fourth quarter, senior midfielder Matt Chadderdon (Auburn, N.Y./Auburn) picked up the ball and fed Harmatuk 10 yards in front of the goal, where he rocketed a low-liner past the goalkeeper. The tally gave Harmatuk a goal in 36 straight games.
Dintaman snapped Le Moyne's streak of 12 consecutive goals by scoring from the right side of the crease with 13:11 remaining in the game.
Le Moyne answered back with four goals in a span of two minutes and 18 seconds. Junior midfielder John Albanese (East Syracuse, N.Y./East Syracuse-Minoa) started the run by finishing off a pass from classmate Sean Connors (Camillus, N.Y./Marcellus). Just 38 seconds later, sophomore attackman Nate Frechette (Manlius, N.Y./Christian Brothers Academy) scored his second goal of the year. Freshman midfielder Bryan Lawson (Amherst, N.Y./Amherst) extended Le Moyne's lead to 17-2 with his second tally of the season. Freshman midfielder Cameron Fedish (Binghamton, N.Y./Chenango Valley) won the following face-off and ran up field for his first career goal.
Bumpus, the reigning Northeast-10 Conference Rookie of the Week, netted his second goal of the contest at the 3:12 mark as the teams each scored twice in a stretch of one minute and 44 seconds. Edward Noonan tallied Franklin Pierce's third goal of the game 20 seconds after Bumpus scored. Albanese answered back 55 seconds later to regain the 17-goal margin for the Dolphins off a pass from freshman attackman Rob Kunz (Watertown, N.Y./Immaculate Heart). Noonan capped the game's scoring 29 seconds later with an unassisted goal, his sixth of the year.
White, the reigning Northeast-10 Goalkeeper of the Week, made a pair of saves in 30 minutes of action to register his third victory of the year, while allowing just a single goal. Tim Izzo suffered the loss for the Ravens after yielding 18 goals in 50 minutes between the pipes, while making nine saves. The Dolphins posted a 54-11 advantage in shots in the game and won 20 of the 27 face-offs, while picking up 38 of the 59 ground balls.
