Plompen Scores Four, C.W. Post Rolls

WHEELING, W.V. – The third-ranked C.W. Post men's lacrosse team captured a 14-3 ECC win over Wheeling Jesuit, 13-3, Wednesday afternoon at the Wheeling Island Stadium.
C.W. Post improves to 12-1 overall and 5-1 in conference play. Wheeling Jesuit drops to 5-6 overall and 1-5 in the ECC.
Junior attacker Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) led the way in scoring with four goals while senior midfielder Mike Messina (Sayville, N.Y.) had a hat trick in the game.
The Pioneers jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the first quarter with goals from senior midfielder John Wood (Marblehead, Mass.), senior midfielder Jimmy Johnston (Farmingville, N.Y.), sophomore attacker Justin Patterson (Corning, N.Y.), junior midfielder Keith Rodriguez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y), and senior midfielder Brad DeSouza (Trumbull, Conn.).
The Cardinals scored one goal in the first with a goal from Landon DelPrince.
The Pioneers added to their lead in the second quarter as Plompen and Messina each scored two to push the lead to 9-2 at the half.
C.W. Post outscored its host, 5-0, in the third quarter, including a man-up score from senior attacker Nick Coric (Walnut Creek, Calif.).
Wheeling Jesuit scored its third goal with the lone goal in the fourth from Kevin Figaniak.
Senior goalkeeper Mike Giordano (Farmingdale, N.Y.) made five saves in goal. Senior Nick Foote (Trumbull, Conn.) came into the game in the second half and made two saves. Junior midfielder Wade Ungar (Middle Island, N.Y.) led the defense with two caused turnovers and four ground balls.
Jim LaPenna made four saves in goal for the Cardinals.
C.W. Post outshot Wheeling Jesuit, 37-23, and held a 51-27 advantage in ground balls.
C.W. Post is back in action on Saturday when it hosts Lake Erie at 12 p.m.
