No. 7 NYIT Dispatches NDNU
from press release
BELMONT, Calif. - The Notre Dame de Namur lacrosse team did not get the fast start they were looking for, falling to NYIT 12-3 in the season opener. The Argos surrendered the games first nine goals before breaking through midway into the third period.
The Bears came out of gates firing, scoring three goals in the opening three minutes on some excellent one-on-one moves. NYIT scored all seven first half goals as the Argos could not get on the board. Goalie Billy McGee twice turned away Nate Jackson just outside the crease to keep his shutout going into halftime.
The third period started out the same with the Bears notching two more goals. However, in the 8th minute of the period, Jordan Wagner put NDNU on the board with a nice goal from the right side. After two more NYIT goals, Ryan Jones scored off a feed from Jackson to make the score 11-2. The two teams swapped the final two goals of the contest with Wagner scoring a second time for NDNU.
For the game, NYIT held a 37-21 shot advantage while also leading groundballs 30-13 and face-offs 11-7.
Wagner scored a pair of goals for NDNU to lead the offense while Aaron Cruz made ten stops after being sent into net halfway through the second period.
Brandon Gamblin torched NDNU with five goals on 12 shots while seven other Bears scored one goal apiece. McGee made seven stops in net for NYIT to earn the win.
The Argos are back in action next Saturday when they head to San Rafael to take on Dominican in their 2012 WILA opener.
