C.W. Post Bounces Back Against Southern N.H.

BROOKVILLE, N.Y. – No. 9 C.W. Post men's lacrosse defeated Southern New Hampshire 13-6 on Saturday afternoon on Hickox Field in non-conference action.
The Pioneers improve to 2-1 overall (1-1 ECC) while the Penmen open their season with a 0-1 record.
Doug Hoch (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) opened the scoring at 12:32 in the first half on an assist from Justin Patterson (Corning, N.Y.). Southern New Hampshire tied the score a minute and a half later on a Rob Murray goal, but the Pioneers reeled off four straight including another by Hoch and two by senior Keith Rodriguez (Cortlandt Manor, N.Y.) to take a 5-1 lead.
SNHU's John Cuozzo scored with 3:36 remaining to cut lead the 5-2, but senior Eddie Plompen (West Islip, N.Y.) scored his first of the day to give the Pioneers a 6-2 lead at the break.
Hoch scored his third goal of the day just thirty seconds into the second half to extend the Pioneer lead to 7-2. But SNHU responded with two straight – another by Murray and one by Jeremy Buckley – to cut the lead to 7-4. C.W. Post answered back with two goals of its own to create a five-goal cushion as Rodriguez scored his third of the day and James Kozlakowski (Lynbrook, N.Y.) scored his first of the season at just 11 seconds apart at 7:51 and 7:40, respectively.
But the Penmen responded yet again with two goals to make it a three-goal game as Corey Allen scored at 2:20 then Ryan Woodford scored off a faceoff just four seconds later. But Plompen capped the third period with his second goal of the day with 00:49 remaining in the period to give the Pioneers a 10-6 heading into the fourth period.
Plompen ripped home another goal at 13:17 to give him a hat trick for the day, and Hoch made it a six-goal advantage with 11:34 remaining in the contest.
Freshman goalkeeper Sam Price (Glenville, Pa.) made seven stops on the day, while SNHU counterpart Brendan O'Brien made 18 saves.
Kozlakowski won 14 of his 19 faceoff attempts for the Pioneers. Offensively, Hoch and Plompen led the way with four goals each while Rodriguez tallied a hat trick. Patterson notched a season-high seven assists, while Connor Drost (Wading River, N.Y.) added two helpers.
Murray led Southern New Hampshire with two goals, while Corey Allen added two assists.
The Pioneers travel to Bentley next Saturday, March 10, for a 1 p.m. matchup against the Falcons.
