No. 4 Dowling Pulls Away from Chestnut Hill

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. - Lou Riley went 12-16 at the faceoff circle, keeping possesion in Dowling's favor as the Golden Lions defeated the Griffins of Seton Hill 9-4 at Golden Lions field. With the win, Dowling extends its winning streak to five straight and 9-1 (8-1 ECC) overall. Seton Hill falls to 6-5 (3-4 ECC) the the year.
A slow paced game, the Golden Lions held Chestnut Hill scoreless in the fourth quarter and used a 5-1 second half advantage to put away the Griffins.
Vito Demola scored three times for Dowling to add to team high 22 goals on the year. The Golden Lions also got two from freshmen Tom Cleary. Both of Cleary's goals were rockets from the left side of the cage that found the top right corner.
One of the highlights of the afternoon came from senior Brendan Hayes. Hayes found Michael Brennan in the slot early in the fourth with a behind the back pass. Brennan quicked sticked the ball into the back of the net falling to the ground giving Dowling a comfortable 8-4 lead.
Ryan Dougherty was good when he needed to be finishing with 11 saves.
Strong defensive contributions were made by sophomore Derek Muzio and senior John Amato. Muzio had a game high four caused turnovers and added four groundballs. A defensive midfielder, Amato caused three turnovers and scooped up 2 gb's.
The Griffins were lead by Bart Pierre who had two of the four Chestnut Hill tallies.
Dowling returns to action next Saturday as they travel up north to Southern New Hampshire. First faceoff is set for 1:00 PM.
