No. 7 NYIT Dispatches No. 8 Seton Hill

GREENSBURG, Pa. - Senior Jason Smith (Nesconset, N.Y.) netted a career-high four goals to help NYIT men's lacrosse to a 13-6 win on the road at No. 8 Seton Hill Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Bears improved to 11-2 on the season and 6-1 in East Coast Conference play.
Smith also dished out three assists for a game-high seven points. Both Bobby Calhoun (Palm Beach Gardens, N.Y.) and Cory Triola (Levittown, N.Y.) chipped in with three goals, while Brandon Gamblin (Lake Grove, N.Y.) had two goals and Ryan Brunet (Sound Beach, N.Y.) added one goal.
In the cage, senior Billy McGee (Rocky Point, N.Y.) made seven saves in the win. He is now 11-2 on the season. The loss went to Chris Ilse (7-4), who tallied 14 saves.
NYIT jumped to a 4-0 lead midway through the first period and led 8-2 at half time. With 8:28 to play in the second period, sophomore Triola scored what would prove to be the game-winning goal off an assist from Brunet. The Griffins rallied in the second half of the game but the Bears remained on top with man-up goals from Triola, Calhoun and Smith.
The Bears return to action on Saturday, April 21 against the No. 1 Lakers of Mercyhurst. Face-off in the Believe in Blue prostate cancer awareness game is scheduled for 1 p.m. at President's Stadium.
