No. 5 Dowling Takes Home Opener Against St. Rose

BROOKHAVEN, N.Y. - The Dowling College men's lacrosse team took to their home field for the first time this season as they hosted the Golden Knights of the College of St. Rose. The Golden Lions came away with the 9-4 win and even out at 1-1 on the season. The Golden Knights drop to 0-3 overall.
Junior Matt Crough led the attack with three goals and one assists. Junior Tom Cleary added two goals
Tied 3-3 at the half, the Golden Lions took advantage of a man up opportunity when Brian White connected withCleary who found the back of the net for the 4-3 lead. Just 30 second later, Crough netted his first of the day using a pass from Michael Brennan. The Golden Knights' Brett McAuliffe picked up his third goal of the day with 4:05 left in the third to get St. Rose back within one (5-4).
The Golden Lions shut out St. Rose in the fourth while putting up four more giving some breathing room. After James Tucci assisted Billy Richardson for the first of the quarter he tallied a goal of his own. Crough's two goals closed out the game for the 9-4 Dowling win.
Senior midfielder Louis Riley was nearly perfect winning 10 of 12 faceoff and picking up eight ground balls. Junior Myles Harvey had 15 saves between the pipes picking up his first win as a Golden Lion.
For St. Rose, McAuliffe notched a hat trick with three goals as goalie Nick Longo allowed nine goals while finishing with 17 saves.
The Golden Lions continue their home stand as they host the University of Southern New Hampshire Thursday, March 7th at 4;00 PM.
