Washington College Men Name Quad Captains

CHESTERTOWN, Md. - Senior midfielders Doug Herdegen (Baltimore, MD/Archbishop Curley) and Shane Kaski (Mosley, VA/Midlothian), junior defender Bryan Botti (Hereford, MD/Hereford), and junior attackman Billy Stafford (White Hall, MD/Hereford) have been named the captains of the Washington College men's lacrosse team for the 2011 season.
Herdegen earned All-Centennial Conference second-team and team Most Valuable Player honors in 2010, leading the Shoremen in goals (29), points (36), shots (110), and extra-man goals (5). He has scpred 62 goals and assisted on 15 others in 44 career games.
Kaski scored 10 goals and recorded 13 assists for the Shoremen in 2010. He has totaled 23 goals and seven assists in 38 career games.
Botti started 13 games for the Shoremen as a sophomore in 2010, a year after earning the team's Most Improved Player Award. His 16 caused turnovers in 2010 were a team-leading total. He has recorded 22 caused turnovers and 27 ground balls in 26 career games.
Stafford recorded a team-leading nine assists to go along with six goals in 2010. He has scored eight goals and assisted on 11 others in 26 career games.
The Shoremen will open their 2011 season, the first under head coach Jeff Shirk, at Goucher on February 26th.
The Washington College men's lacrosse team has made 30 NCAA and USILA Tournament appearances. The Shoremen, who are 594-329-1 all-time, won the 1998 NCAA Division III National Championship and the 1954 USILA Laurie Cox Division Co-National Championship. Washington College men's lacrosse players have earned All-America honors 226 times. The 2011 season will be the 70th season of varsity men's lacrosse at Washington College. The College first fielded a varsity men's lacrosse program from 1929 until 1934 and revived the sport for the 1948 season.
