Hot Start Lifts Wesley Over Greensboro

GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wesley College got off to a fast start, but needed to hold off a hard charging Greensboro squad for a 10-8 win.
The Wolverines (2-3) jumped ahead 6-1 after the first quarter, including two goals apiece by Joe Trezza (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and Eric Crumbock (Levittown, Pa./Truman). Greensboro's Zach Frohne scored the only goal for either team in the second period, trimming the deficit to 6-2 at the half.
Justin D'Alonzo (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) scored two of his game-high four goals in the third period as Wesley maintained its lead at 8-4 going into the final quarter.
After D'Alonzo scored again to open the fourth, the Pride (3-5) ripped off four straight goals to pull to within one at 9-8 with 5:27 to play.
The Wolverines iced the game with a Tyler DiStefano (Jackson, N.J./Jackson Memorial) tally with 3:04 to go.
Sean Mathews (Baltimore, Pa./Pennsbury) continued his strong play in goal, making 12 saves and scooping six ground balls.
D'Alonzo finished with five points, adding an assist to his four goals. Trezza had two goals and an assist for three points.
The Wolverines held a 37-29 advantage on ground balls.
Phil Schmid led Greensboro with three goals and an assist, while Jose Rodriguez added a pair of scores and an assist.
Jordan Taylor and Mitchell Kanowicz split time in goal for the Pride. Taylor made nine saves in 53 minutes, while Kanowicz stopped a pair of shots in seven minutes of action.
Wesley will look to stay in the win column when they travel to Delmarva rival Washington College on Sunday, March 13.
