Schmidt Earns Pilgrim Player of Week Award
from press release
BABSON PARK, Mass. -- After helping the Babson College men's lacrosse team get off to a quick 2-0 start this season, Beavers' junior midfielder Jamie Schmidt (Shelburne, Vt.) has been named Pilgrim League Player of the Week.
Schmidt powered the Babson offense in a pair of huge victories to begin the year, totaling six goals in the team's first two contests. On February 25, he scored the Beavers' fourth and fifth goals in a huge 8-6 victory over 20th-ranked Skidmore. Then one week later, he tallied four goals in a 16-11 road victory over Hartwick - including three in the second half to help deny the Hawks' late comeback bid.
Now in his third season at Babson, Schmidt boasts career totals of 53 goals and 18 assists for 71 points in 37 games played. As a result of his strong start, the Beavers received votes in the U.S. Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (USILA) national poll for the first time in at least a decade on Monday. The Green and White will put their unbeaten record on the line this Wednesday, when they travel to New Hampshire for a 4 p.m. non-conference matchup at New England College.
