Presbyterian Handles Howard 19-9

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Presbyterian College scored
12 goals in the first half, which included three from Shannon
Hartford, to secure the 19-9 victory over Howard in Women's
Lacrosse action this afternoon in Washington, D.C.
The win is the first of the season for PC as it improves to 1-2 overall and 1-0 in the National Lacrosse Conference. Howard falls to 0-3, and 0-1.
PC scored just 55 seconds into the first half as Catherine Ellis (Charlotte, N.C.) hit the back of the net off the assist from Laura Meade (Acworth, Ga.), who finished with a team-leading two assists. Brianna Ward (Cincinnati, Ohio) scored just over a minute later (assist Kirsten Stenoien from Houston, Texas) and the first half route was on as the Blue Hose rattled off the next 10 of the half's 12 goals to go to intermission leading 12-2.
Hartford posted her last goal of the game with just 25 seconds remaining in the first half.
Howard opened the second half scoring five goals to just one for PC and only trailed 14-6, before the Blue Hose outscored the Bison 5-3 down the stretch to take the 19-9 win.
Hillary Leonard (Duluth, Ga.) proved to be the star of the second half, scoring all thee of her goals in the final stanza, including PC's last two (with 6:49 and 5:36 remaining).
Following Hartford and Leonard in goals scored was Jaime Beamish (Memphis, Tenn.), Ellis, Katie Prisco (West Babylon, N.Y.), Ward and Laura Lefeber (Waxhaw, N.C.) who all had two each on the afternoon
Cheryse Cox and Desiree Cox led Howard with three goals apiece.
PC held the 20-9 advantage in draw controls and out-shot Howard 30-26. Saves were even at nine apiece with Amber Meeks picking up the loss for the Bison and Susan England (Bethesda, Md.) earning the win for the Blue Hose.
